Sparkles Lund Dances with Jason Derulo and Macy’s for Children’s Cancer Research Fund

Arroyo Grande, Calif., July 8^th, 2014 – 11-year old Arroyo Grande dancer, Alexandra “Sparkles” Lund has been selected to perform in Macy’s Glamorama, featuring pop artist Jason Derulo for a three-city tour to raise donations for Children’s Cancer Research Fund. Pop artist and cancer survivor Sheryl Crow will join Lund and Derulo, and seven other dancers for an hour-long dance, music, and couture fashion show. The performances will take place this summer in Minneapolis, Chicago, and San Francisco. Lund was chosen during from audition against more than 500 professional dancers.

Alexandra Lund, who uses the stage name “Sparkles”, was inspired by the story of the Internet sensation Talia Joy who was diagnosed in 2007 with pediatric cancer at age 7. Joy rose in celebrity through Instagram and her YouTube channel that featured the bald Talia applying makeup. After attracting 1 million subscribers, her story was featured on the Ellen DeGeneres Show and on the cover of COVERGIRL magazine. “When you see the courage and determination of a kid like Talia, you cannot help to be inspired to work hard and appreciate what you have in life”, says Sparkles. @sparkleslund followed the daily posts of Talia on the popular social media network, Instagram until Talia’s death last summer on July 16^th.  Lund uses the inspiration gained Talia Joy and others to juggle priorities in her own life including maintaining straight As at The Laureate School, where she has been recognized as a John’s Hopkins Scholar; training and competing as a national championship dancer; auditioning and performing as a professional dancer, model, and actress.

Sparkles Lund began dancing at the age of 8 and won a national championship for Dancer of the Year at the age of 9. She trains and dances on the competition team for Dellos Performing Arts Center in Arroyo Grande under the guidance of Johnna Clark. Sparkles is also on the renowned Hip Hop crew, #lilbeasts with choreographer and director Will Adams “Willdabeast.” #lilbeasts performed last week at Pulse Summer Showcase in Las Vegas featuring Fik-Shun, season 10 So You Think You Can Dance winner.

She is also a VIP Guest for the Dizzy Feet Foundation Gala to raise money for dance scholarships.

Tickets for San Francisco are not yet available. The first of the four events will he held in Minneapolis on August 1^st at 8 PM at the State Theatre. The Chicago event will be held on August 8^th at 8 PM at The Harris Theater for Music and Dance at Millennium Park.
